But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

So often our lives as followers of Jesus can seem to lurch from defeat to defeat, yet here Paul assures us that Jesus has given us victory! It really is true that through Christ’s victory over death and evil on the Cross, we can overcome any giants that the devil may throw our way. However, the starting place for victory is surrender to the Lord, and an understanding that we cannot win on our own! If there are areas of your life right now where you experience defeat rather than victory, why not surrender them to the Lord, and pray that He will give you the presence of the Holy Spirit as your guide, along with a measure of your own self-discipline, to live in the strength of victory rather than the pain of defeat.
