You wield extraordinary power. You may not think so; the effect you have on others may not be visible to you. But you can fill others with life, hope, and peace—if you are intentional with your words and speak blessing and encouragement into their lives.
Think about the opportunity. While some are out there tearing others down with their criticisms and complaints, you can actually lift others up, change their perspective, draw them closer to God, and trigger a wave of blessing that they then pass on to those around them.
That’s how it works when you express God’s heart in people’s lives—their attitude changes; they tend to give what they’ve received; they speak words of blessing—and the ripple effects go on and on. Even one well-placed affirmation or encouragement can become a catalyst for widespread change. You may never see it, but you started it. You become an expression of the Spirit who comforts, edifies, and inspires.
We live in a world full of negative, destructive, life-draining words. Defy the culture. Refuse to get drawn into pointless arguments, personal jabs, and fruitless complaints. Speak life instead. The people around you—and the people around them—will experience something of God and be blessed.
Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone (Colossians 4:6 nlt).
