Will I Ever Get Beyond “This?”

You’re likely reading this blog post because you wrestle with an emotion that torments you or will not leave you alone for a lickety-slit-second! I get that!

For years my “this” was a concoction of anger, mixed with a cup of fear and two tablespoons of resentment.  I still loved my former husband.  And just when I thought I was getting over him, he’d pick up the kids for the weekend. I’d melt the second I laid eyes on him.  Then… all of my ups and down would twirl out of control once again.

Whether single again, widowed, whether you’ve adopted kids, or never married, you’ve all experienced at one time or another a “this” – that thing that tilts you upside down, thrusting you into the loop-de-loop of trying to find your balance. It’s actually not lack of “balance” you’re suffering from, but lack of emotional wellness or stability. So how does one get that?

Such a question over the years served as the catalyst of my book – The Single Mom and Her Rollercoaster Emotions.  But what I’ve learned since the book came out in 2014 is this: learning to manage my emotions in a Christ-like way (anger, bitterness, fear, loneliness, etc.) is a lifelong struggle, an ever-present reality I MUST learn to overcome on a regular basis.  But how?

It’s a question only you can answer truthfully about yourself: “Am I living in emotional poverty or God’s prosperity?”  How do you know? Here’s a reliable formula:

Living under the influence of feelings = emotional poverty. Living under the influence of the Holy Spirit = God’s prosperity.
