So much of the country (or at least most of the women in the country, including my wife!) have been swept up in the soap opera Masterpiece Theater series Downton Abbey. I’ve been driving Lori crazy by calling it Downtown Abbey!
The show follows the drama of an aristocratic family on an estate in England and the dozens of servants who keep their house going. Among the many quotable lines is this one by the matriarch of the family. “What’s a weekend?” she asks, oblivious to the schedule of work and time off that the lower classes live by.
For the rich Grantham family in this show, a weekend is just two more days of normal life. But for me, it’s the best part of the week, because it is when the church gathers together corporately.
One great thing from this past weekend was having my friend Dave Stone share at our Henderson campus. He delivered some great insights on parenting and many of our campus pastors shared awesome messages on relationships. I really love our team of leaders, their heart for God, and the way they communicate God’s word.
I spoke this past weekend in Houston at Woodlands Church for my friend Pastor Kerry Shook. It is an incredible church and I had a blast sharing the message of "Pursued." Plus, Lori got to go with me and we ate so much Mexican food it was just WRONG!
As I was signing books between services, I couldn’t believe it when a childhood friend walked up who I haven’t seen in decades. He lived one street over from me and we used to play basketball together. It’s a small world!
Best of all, this weekend at one Fuse “First Step” class, 59 junior high students placed their faith and trust in Jesus! And hundreds of our high school Fuse students and leaders were at Elevation for a winter weekend camp experience.
I’m excited to be teaching this weekend wrapping up our "Single. Dating. Married" series. And we’ll be talking about the Pursued Challenge we’re about to start at Central. I’m praying that the next month is a awesome time for people to grow in their faith and experience more of God.
What’s a weekend? It’s a time when God moves! But its not the only time. As a church sign I saw this week read, “God wants full custody, not just weekend visits!”
