Scripture: 1 Kings 17:8-20:22
"There was always enough flour and olive oil left in the containers, just as the Lord had promised through Elijah." 1 Kings 17:16 (NLT)
My heart was drawn to the sacrifice of the widow and her great faith in the God of Elijah. She made her situation clear ... it was desperate. However, in faith she trusted God. I wonder what she expected to happen. Did she anticipate the meal to multiply and they would all die together? Did she think the meal she and her son ate before Elijah arrived was their last? What a turning point in her life! What a turning point in her son’s life!
Do you have a turning point? Has there been a day or an event in your life that changed you forever? Is there a time when, at your weakest, you used your last bit of strength to give God all you had left?
My turning point came during my husband's 18-month battle with an eye infection that would not respond to treatment. He faced the very real possibility of losing his sight in that eye. All the while, he struggled with an undiagnosed chronic illness that often left him unable to use his hands or move his hips and other joints.
One Sunday, the Lord moved me to my knees at the altar of our church. There, He asked me to trust Him and give control of trying to fix the situation. He had prepared me during the week by whispering to my spirit what He would be requiring of me on Sunday. I argued and stubbornly dug my heels in, telling Him no. But the Spirit moved me, heels and all. I meet the Lord with trembling hands and a tear-stained face, giving Him my husband's sight and health.
The same God of Elijah took my little bit of faith and made it enough to carry me through the uncertainty of my future. He can and will do the same for you too. What turning point is on your horizon today? Ask the Lord to increase your faith, multiply your trust, and expand your courage to believe He is able to make all things work together for your good.
Will you pause today and praise God for a turning point in your life?
