At my house, we love Legos. Last year we bought my son Ethan the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars. This thing was amazing; it had more than 1200 little pieces and an instruction booklet dozens of pages long. At one point, two sections had to come together to form the main body of the ship. The only problem was, they didn’t fit. Somewhere a few steps back we’d made a mistake. So Lori looked at the instructions and began pulling the whole thing apart. Ethan started to panic—“Mom, what are you DOING???” But the only way to fix it was to tear it apart and rebuild it correctly. She said, “Ethan, I’ve been doing Legos a lot longer than you. I’ve got this. Trust me.”
Sometimes this is also true for us. When our lives have gone off track and the pieces don’t go together, God might have to do some rebuilding. Sometimes it can even feel like He’s tearing us apart. At these times, however, He’s usually helping us become stronger. In fact, these times in the valleys give us the opportunity to grow the most, and they prepare us for the mountaintops.
God cares more for your character than your comfort. He cares less about what you want and more about who you are becoming. But remember that if He can hold the world together, He can hold your life together even when it feels like it’s falling apart. Just like my son had to look past his fear and trust Lori to assemble the Millennium Falcon, we need to look past the pain and cling to the promise. He knows how your life is supposed to fit together, and He’s got this. As this new week begins, will you trust Him?
