Want to change the world? Begin with yourself.
Tolstoy, the great Russian writer, wrote that while everyone wants to change the world, no one wants to change themselves. That may not be an exact quote, but you get the point.
For some reason, all of us feel like the world would be better off if someone else did something different. Add to this the cold reality that we can’t control or change anyone else and you can see our dilemma.
We really can’t change the world. We can only change ourselves. Oddly enough, that may be enough. Let me show you what I mean. Let’s look at my own life as an example.
If I get serious—really serious—about my relationship with Jesus Christ and become a much better disciple, then it follows that:
…I’ll be a better husband to Jeannie.
…And a better father to Chris and Craig.
…And a better father-in-law to Deb and Nan.
…And a better pastor to Brentwood Baptist Church.
…And a better friend to my friends.
…And a better neighbor.
I’m all for changing the world, so let’s start. What are those 2-3 things you can do today to start becoming a better disciple of Christ?
Remember, we’re changing the world, but we have to start with ourselves. That’s the goal today—just start.
