Time to Remember

Are you an early riser? Although I don’t often make it up before 7:00 a.m., there’s something about the stillness of the morning and the promise of a new day that tempts me to reconsider.

As I set out for a brisk walk with one of our dogs this morning, cheery birdsong, and the absence of traffic gave me the opportunity to focus on the Lord. I remembered a familiar verse:

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

One day at a time

It’s easy to take the 24-hour day for granted. I’m guilty of adopting a weekly routine and forgetting to be thankful for each new day the Lord gives me. Instead, I concentrate on what I’ll do the next day or week, instead of enjoying every moment of the day I’ve been given. You too?

You and I are bound by time. It’s hard for me to imagine life without it. But the God of the Universe isn’t limited by time. He created it.

An opportunity

Every day we have the opportunity to get to know our God and worship Him for who He is.

God is holy, and deserves our respect. Aside from having a relationship with Jesus Christ, we cannot come into His presence.

God’s greatness

The book of Isaiah gives me a glimpse into God’s throne room. And the effect of His Holy presence on man.

The Lord is in the temple and the angels around His throne are crying out to each other:

…Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. Isaiah 6:3

Notice Isaiah’s reaction:

Then said I, Woe is me: for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Isaiah 6:5

My response

Am I aware of God’s holiness on a daily basis, or do I approach Him as someone who is there to do my bidding? Ouch. I have to admit that’s been my attitude lots of times. “God, I’m doing this for You, bless it and make it successful (according to my definition of ‘success’). “

As I walked this morning, and took time to notice the beauty of all God had created, I was reminded that He is HUGE. His plans are far greater than anything I could dream up. And He deserves my reverence and respect.

I’m thankful for THIS day and for God’s invitation to spend time in His presence.

Your turn

Are you grateful for this day? Have you taken God for granted? What step will you take to see Him for who He is, and worship Him today?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are holy. Without the righteousness of Christ, I couldn’t even approach You. Forgive me for treating You as if You exist to serve me. Remind me of Your greatness and help me live to honor You today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
