I. God always starts with one individual when He wants to do something
A. He doesn’t use a committee
B. Example: Abraham, Noah, Joseph, Moses, Nehemiah.
II. God uses the personality, gifts, and abilities of the individual He chooses, as the template for the larger work He then starts.
A. Mt. 10:41, Eph. 4:7-12, John 13:16
B. If the pastor is a soul winner, then the church will be evangelistic and grow large – but may lack strong follow-up and teaching
1. Prophetic: there will be great and intimate worship and profound preaching and exhortation with much vision casting
2. Teaching- Strong emphasis on doctrine, order and administration (Church may lack fire, passion and new influx of souls)
3. Pastor- Much emphasis on counseling, fellowship and caring for the sheep and follow-up. This church emphasizes in-reach more than outreach (church may lack leadership development and delegation).
4. Apostle- Has a great balance of soul wining, follow-up, leadership development, teaching and starting other churches and missions
III. The qualifications of a leader in the church
A. Must have the spirit of the armor bearer – 1 Samuel 31:5; Matthew 18:15-17; Zech. 13:7
1. Be a personal intercessor for the pastor and family
2. Deflect gossip and the attacks of the enemy
3. See how you can take away some of the burdens – Acts 6:3, 4 – (Many pastors try to do the work of an Apostle, pastor and deacon and they burn out)
B. Must serve the pastor – John 13:20, 1 Kings 19:19-21, 2 Kings 3:11, Exodus 34:11
C. Exodus 18:13-23
D. Numbers 11:11-17, 27:15-23; 2 Kings 1 & 2 – Elijah
