Sometimes life feels like a Picasso. You know it’s priceless, but you've got to wonder how everything fits together.
That’s okay—not a single biblical promise suggests that when God directs your steps, the path will be short and straight. On the contrary, we’re given numerous examples of people who received a wonderful promise from God and almost immediately found their life moving in the opposite direction: Abraham, Joseph, David, and many more. God’s leading is certain, but it can also be extremely disorienting.
Learn from the heroes of faith who heard God’s call and then experienced contradictions to it. Notice the trajectory of Joseph, whose every move away from the promise—slavery in Egypt, false arrest and imprisonment, and years of seemingly senseless delay—was actually another step toward the fulfillment.
Until the time that his word came to pass, the word of the Lord tested him. (Psalm 105:19 nkjv)
When God calls, expect stretching, sometimes to the point of extreme discomfort. God’s paths may defy your logic, but they always take you to the best destination.
