The Kind of Work God Blesses - Part 3

If we want God to bless our work, we need to “start working enthusiastically.”

What happens if the work we’re asked to do doesn’t make any sense?

What if you were a fisherman by trade? Imagine this, if you will...

Your father was a fisherman. His grandfather probably was a fisherman. You know all about fishing. Since you first learned to walk, you've spent time on the seashore learning to watch the tide and the winds. You've studied not only the water but also the behavior of the fish...

Imagine that you've been out at sea for an entire night. You've used every trick you know to catch fish--and still you've come up with nothing. You're tired. You're frustrated. And now you realize that your family isn't going to get the money they so desperately need...

What would you do if some guy came up to you and told you to try again? Would you do it?

This is what happened to one of Jesus' disciples, Simon (whom Christ later called Peter). After teaching the masses from his boat, Jesus told Peter to go out to sea again to try to catch fish. Instead of complaining, Peter simply said, “We’ve tried all night. . .but we’ll go out again.” And as a result, Peter and his men caught so many fish that their nets began to break and they had to call others over to help them bring in the fish! (Luke 5:1-9)

The secret to their success was they had listened to what Jesus had said and had followed His instructions enthusiastically.

When things become tedious in the workplace or don't appear to have a solution--pray--and then listen for direction from God. Once you’ve heard from Him, put your hand to the task enthusiastically, and then watch how God blesses!
