The Importance of Vision

A lot of the “leader-talk” that leaders share is about vision. Why is vision so important? Do we understand the impact…the importance…of vision? Consider as you compare the following two options for taking a vacation:

Option One:

  • Buy sunscreen
  • Take dog to the kennel
  • Check kids out of school
  • Stop the mail

Option Two

  • Have fun while creating memories with family as you go on vacation at the beach!

Option One is a task list. Option Two is a vision. Which one inspires you? While this may seem like a “no-brainer,” way too often leaders focus only on the task list rather than vision. Because leaders are so task-oriented (don’t we all have at least one list in our minds?), focusing on the task list comes much more natural and easy than understanding and taking the time to cast a vision. Yes, tasks must be done within any ministry and work…BUT a scripturally-based vision is what will offer those who follow you the passion to engage in the work! Vision is what gives them the incentive to reprioritize their schedule and engage with urgency in accomplishing their task.

So, what do your people see through your leadership? Do they see and hear tasks?
