Are you boastful? Most of us would not think of boastfulness as a spiritual characteristic. Scripture calls us to humility, repentance, worship, prayer, and service. We are called to seek wisdom, reconciliation with our brothers and sisters in Christ, and a right understanding of ourselves in relationship to God. At last we find that we have something to boast about: we know the Lord of all the earth! The things you boast about reveal what you value most. Where does knowing God fit on your list of values?
This is what the Lord says: "Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the Lord.—Jeremiah 9:23-24
