Space to Breathe

WHOEVER DWELLS IN THE SHELTER OF THE MOST HIGH WILL REST IN THE SHADOW OF THE ALMIGHTY. I WILL SAY OF THE LORD, "HE IS MY REFUGE AND MY FORTRESS, MY GOD, IN WHOM I TRUST." — PSALM 91:1-2

Are you in a busy season? Vacations, cook-outs with friends, family visits, weddings, and other events pack the warm days tight as berries in a pie—and that's in addition to the everyday things that need doing.

Even joyous times can take a toll on us when we don't make any time for ourselves. It might sound strange to trust God with the "fun stuff," but because He loves us, He is interested in every part of our lives, even in our over-scheduled social calendars.

This season, set aside time to be still before the Father. Time is His gift to us to spend wisely for His glory. We may be tempted to invest all of our time in others, but we are called to rest as well as to serve. God calls us to quiet our souls and nurture our mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Take a moment and breathe deeply, go for a long walk, or watch the sunlight shift from morning to afternoon. Bask in His presence—wordlessly, in prayer, in His Word, whatever—draw strength from His presence. The fast-paced life will still be there when we get back.

Let's pray:

Father God, thank You for being my refuge. I want to be close to You no matter how busy my schedule is. Please teach me to take time to be still before You. Amen.
