Something Needs to be Changed

Too many times when we realize something in our lives needs to be changed, we try to change everything at once. We want to buy new clothes, get a new hairstyle, change all of our friends and eat at new restaurants. We want to start reading the Bible more, keep a journal and go on a mission trip – and we want to do it all in the next week. You know what happens. We become overwhelmed with our efforts of change and then we become frustrated when the changes don’t go the way we want them to go and we quit…with no real change to show for our efforts.

Most of us simply try to change too much too fast. Remember, life is a marathon, not a sprint. You don’t survive a marathon, much less win it, if you are sprinting one mile and walking the next. The winning pace has to be steady and constant. The same is true in life. The winning pace has to be maintained for a consistent time. So, make your list of everything that needs to be changed. Pick one thing off the list. Do that. Then, come back and pick the next thing you want to change off the list. And keep doing this until you run out of things on the list….(which you won’t ever do). Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Don’t let other people put too much pressure on you. Slow and steady wins the race.
