Sling and Stone

“If you have faith like a grain of mustard seed…(Matthew 17:20).

A widow’s mite, a boy’s sling and stone, a pearl of great price, five loaves two small fishes, Jewish captive maid, baby Jesus --small items or nominal people can represent and be used for miraculous purposes.

God’s fullness flows through the tiniest channel.

Such was the case with Naaman, Syrian captain in Damascus’ army. An insignificant slave maiden found out about his deathly disease --the strong warrior had leprosy.  God used a captive maid as a conduit between heaven and earth. Double-portioned Elisha sent God’s words of instruction and Naaman’s skin became white as snow after dipping in the muddy Jordan.

God mightily and regularly uses unimportant [by the world’s standards] ambassadors to accomplish His will.

Israel’s most famous King grew up a shepherd-boy in Bethlehem. He’s most famous as the teenager who killed a heavily armed giant, Goliath, with only a slingshot---a heroic act that eventually propelled him to Israel’s throne. He sat before God asking, “Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my [few numbers] house, that You have brought me this far?” (2 Samuel 7:18)

Across the Sea of Galilee, Jesus climbed a hill and sat down among a multitude [5000] of people. They gathered to hear the Nazarene teach. It was getting late and the seekers had no place to buy food. Filled with compassion, Jesus asked Phillip where they could buy bread. Andrew said, “There’s a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what is that among so many?” (John 6:9).

“Does the place you’re called to labor seem so small and little known?

It is great if God is in it, and He’ll not forget His own

Little is much when God is in it. Labor not for wealth or fame

There’s a crown and we will win it, if we go in Jesus’ name”
