Shopping for Swimwear

Summer is quickly approaching and that means the dreaded swimsuit shopping adventure. Let's just face it. Swimsuits are not modest, period. Nothing about them is. But if you're going to the beeaaaach (sung to the tune of "Rolling in the Deep") this summer, keep these tips in mind:

  • Swimwear is for SWIMMING. Swimsuits are fine for jumping in the ocean or pool, but a girl who values modesty covers up when she gets out. "Laying out" may be okay with girlfriends, but not when there are guys around. Whether it's a pair of board shorts and a T-shirt or a fun frilly cover-up, you have lots of adorable options!
  • Focus on what you CAN purchase. We're partial to tankinis, especially ones with shorts (they're usually less form-fitting than a one-piece; we've had success at places like Kohl's and some sporting goods stores since athletic suits tend to cover more territory). Do some online shopping and you will find that modest swimwear can be cute. When you are working toward modesty, it's crucial to focus on what you can say "yes" to instead of dwelling on the "no's."
  • Develop a game plan BEFORE you hit the mall. As a general rule, we see NO reason for sheer fabric, bikinis, plunging necklines, or high-cut hips.

And of course, don't forget to finish off the trip by picking up some super-cool nail polish and stopping in for some refreshing summer smoothies with your shopping buddies.

We believe it is possible to beat the heat this summer and honor God with your swimwear. Are you up for the challenge? Ready. Set. Shop!
