Seeing

Recently my wife had a detached retina that required surgery.  Pretty brutal recovery.  Her sight is slowly coming back, but this makes me realize how much sight we lose as we get older. I have to hold my phone farther from my eyes so I can read it.  I need my glasses to watch the t.v.  I find myself squinting.

There is so much we should see without our eyes.  One prayer I have regularly is, “Lord, help me to see what I don’t see.”  I realize that is an oxymoron.  There is so much that I don’t see, even though I have the capacity to see.  There are truths that are apparent, that I don’t see.  I look past it, don’t believe it, or don’t expect it, so I don’t see.

As we get older, we should see more that we don’t see.   We should see more, understand more, expect more.  Our blind spots should be fewer.  Our awareness of what God is doing should be sharper.

Too many times we even lose this kind of sight.  We neglect God.  We assume things are just like we think they should be, so we don’t have a need to see anything new.  We already see everything.

How do you develop this type of sight?  Ask God to give it to you.

Challenge: Ask God to help you see what you don’t see.  Then assume that He will.
