Run the Play

I wanted to puke. My lungs were on fire. My legs were so fatigued I didn’t think I could take another step. Despite how I felt, the ten other men on the field, my Indianapolis Colts teammates on the sidelines, the 60,000 fans at the RCA Dome, and the millions watching on TV, were all relying on me not to give up.

How do you keep playing when you don’t feel like playing? When you don’t think it’s possible to go on?

You focus your mind on the next play and you let your mental and physical preparation take over.

In an NFL game, you must, you have to do that over and over and over, until the game is over.

Here’s the deal: In life you will feel depression, despair and defeat; we must focus all our thoughts on Jesus and His Gospel (John 15:5).

You are a beloved child of God.

Your sins are eternally forgiven and forgotten.

You are indwelt by Jesus and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

You will overcome because Jesus overcame sin, death, and Satan.

You are loved with the never-stopping, never-giving-up, always-present love of the Father.

Run the play called the Gospel.
