In the Bible, when Paul wanted to challenge Christians to live out their faith and deal with the sin in their lives, he reminded them of their baptism:
“Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Or have you forgotten that we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism…” (Romans 6:2-3, NLT)
Do you remember your baptism? Maybe it was at church or summer camp, in a baptistry, swimming pool, or the ocean, etc. Take a moment to think back on that time and what it stands for. …into the forgiveness of your sins (Acts 2:38)

…into one body (1 Corinthians 12:13)
Your baptism represents an unmistakable burial and resurrection in Christ. William Willamon says it this way: “ In baptism we are initiated, crowned, chosen, embraced, washed, adopted, gifted, reborn, killed, and thereby sent forth and redeemed. We are identified as one of God’s own, then assigned our place and our job within the kingdom of God.”
Some of the most special moments I’ve ever had centered on baptism. I remember my own baptism and how important it was to me. I’ve been privileged to baptize dear friends and family living in Las Vegas. I’ve even baptized Elvis (an impersonator, of course). Baptism speaks to the reality of the victory of Jesus over the sin in our life.
Take some time this week to reflect on what your baptism was like and what it represents. Remember that you have been forgiven. Remember that you are HIS! Remember that you’ve been sent forth to live a new life in Christ. Remember the new identity that God has given you.
