For the life of a creature is in the blood… it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life (Lev 17:11 NIV).
From Genesis to Revelation, our Holy Bible is the greatest love story ever told. Written in red: a Savior willing to trade His sinless life for our hell-deserving ones. Without the shedding of blood there’s no remission for sins (Hebrews 9:22).
One of the most heart-warming stories about love and forgiveness is found in the life of Jacob and Rachel’s first son, Joseph. When Jacob made Joseph a special coat, his brothers hated and envied him (Genesis 37:4-5). The brothers never imagined in their murderous hearts that Joseph was appointed by God to save them.
Instead of killing Joseph, they sold him into slavery, but not before removing his "coat of many colors." Dipped in goat’s blood the garment was shown to Joseph’s father Jacob as if to say ‘your beloved son is dead.’
The great-great-grandmother of King David, Rahab, bound a scarlet cord in her window before the siege upon Jericho led by Moses’ successor Joshua. The Israelite army spared everyone in the house marked by the red cloth (Joshua 2:21, 6:22).
Isaiah prophesied the final battle 700 years before John the Revelator records it. “Who is this… with crimson-stained garments [the One] mighty to save?” (Isaiah 63:1 Amplified) We’re told of Jesus’ robe dipped in blood accumulated in the last battle of sin, Satan and death. Jesus’ second coming and triumphant victory ends all evil forever. “He is dressed in a robe dyed by dipping in blood and a title by which He is called The Word of God” (Revelation 19:13 Amplified).
Bringer of Life, You are the Lover of our souls. Oh, Father, wash us in the Lamb’s crimson flow. Amen.
