Open

“The servant of the man of God went out [afraid] and said, “My master! What shall we do?” Elisha answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Lord, I pray, open  [my servant’s] eyes that he may see." Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw” (2 Kings 6:14-17 NKJV).

Only God can open. He opens eyes, ears and hearts that we may know Him intimately. God desires our fellowship and is a Friend that sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). He stands outside knocking and waits for someone to open the door so that He may come in and dine with enjoyment of sweet communion (Revelation 3:20).

In Acts we find a woman named Lydia who lived in Thyatira and sold purple cloth. Scripture tells us she ‘worshipped’ God. “The Lord opened her [Lydia’s] heart to heed the things spoken by Paul. And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us [the apostles], saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay”. So she persuaded us (Acts 16:14-15 NKJV).

When God opens a door, no man can shut it. And, if God shuts a door, no one can open it. “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it” (Revelation 3:7-8 NKJV).

The Old Testament prophet Isaiah declared, “The key of the house of David I will lay on His (Jesus’) shoulder; so shall He open, and no one shall shut; And He shall shut, and no one shall open” (Isaiah 22:22-23 NKJV).

May we allow the Holy Spirit to open our spiritual ears and hearts --to teach, guide, correct, and comfort. Let’s embrace a pliable attitude and flexible mind for obedience that will allow precious fellowship with the One we adore.

“Open these clenched fists dear Father. Tenderly melt this heart of stone. Take worldly loves away. Your Presence alone is enough.
