Relationships are complicated and I don’t pretend to know what you’ve been through in yours. When we turn to the Bible we see that God’s ideal is a marriage that lasts a lifetime. In the book of Malachi, God says, “I hate divorce” (2:16). Please see this…God does not hate divorced people. He hates divorce.
God hates what divorce does in people’s lives. It tears families apart. It shreds homes to pieces. It separates parents from children. Most who have experienced the pain of divorce would agree with God. They hate the pain divorce causes. They hate the devastation divorce brings to families. Who gets married and ever thinks it will end in divorce?
In the frailty of our own earthly relationships, our vows don’t always remain. But no matter how well or how poorly we’ve done in our relationships, there is one relationship that ultimately does not fail. There is one relationship that’s always faithful. There is one that always stands by us—God.
If you are hurting right now, maybe in the middle of a breakup, I want you to know that God is there. He’s the answer! Better than any book or rules for relationships, if you work on growing closer to God you can’t help but mature and learn as he desires.
And God tells us that he’ll never leave us and never forsake us. When he commits to us, he has the ability to fulfill it. Jesus left us with the promise that he’ll be with us, even to the end of the age! Take courage and lean into him and allow him to heal and help today.
