On the Aisle

I’m an aisle person. In church, on buses and on airplanes, that’s where you’ll find me. Usually. On a recent flight, though, that wasn’t the case. I was assigned the window seat... and not very excited about it.

But, there in the window-seat world was indescribable beauty. Layer upon layer of white, fluffy wonder shouting out the glory of God. These clouds were screaming praise to their Creator. The colors that reflected off them as the sun set to the west of us literally took my breath away.

There was the lesson. I’d have missed that in the aisle seat.

What else do I miss from the aisle? When I’m on the periphery—whether in leadership or life—am I there for my team?  Do I know what they’re facing?

That’s not what God calls me to do.

As a leader, He was “all in”. In fact, no one has even been as all in as He was.  And He calls me to the same. Humility. Confidence in Him. Sacrificing what’s comfortable and what I want for those I lead.

Next flight? The window seat!
