Miles to E – 0

I was driving on the freeway this week and was shocked to look down and see my gas gauge below E. My readout under the gauge said, “Miles to E - 0.” Not good.

I had no idea how long I’d been running on empty. I frantically found a gas station and thankfully made it with no problems. I thought my car had a 15-gallon gas tank max, but it took 15.375 gallons to fill it up.

My car was thirsty!

This is where a lot of us are in life and leadership: we are running on E and don’t even realize how low our reserves are.

Outside of the obvious demands of life that wear us out, some of us may be on E because spiritually we are either running FROM God or running FOR God. I’ve found both to be equally exhausting.

For years I ran from God and his will for my life. When I finally surrendered to him I was so tired. But what I found is that later I was running in a different way. I no longer ran from him, but I ran for him.

When you run for God you are constantly trying to be good enough, trying to keep up appearances, trying to prove your love and value.

And it is never enough.

This is why I wrote Pursued: God’s Divine Obsession with You. I want to help others be renewed by God’s amazing love.

I want to help people realize they don’t need to run FROM God or FOR God, they can simply run TO God and rest IN God.

I’m praying and trusting that many will be restored as they come back to the radical, crazy, irrational love of God and learn to rest in him again.

How full is your spiritual tank?
