Living Off the Courage of Another

Daily, we have moments that require courage.

Perhaps it’s the courage to forgive someone who sexually abused you?

Perhaps it’s the courage to forgive a parent who hurt you?

Perhaps it’s the courage to buy a smaller house and move out of that nicer neighborhood?

Where do we get this kind of courage that honors God and makes much of God and His purposes for your life? A self-help guru can only teach you human courage, which ultimately is about your glory and not God’s. I have no interest in self-help.

So where do we get a God-glorifying, making-much-of-Jesus, Holy Spirit-reliant kind of courage?

Marinate on Galatians 2:20:

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.

There it is: “But Christ who lives in me.” That is one of the greatest, most life-transforming statements in human literature.

The Christ, Jesus, the eternal Son of God, who created all things along with the Father and Spirit, dwells in you. You are His sacred vessel for Him to express His Life in and through you.

Life Itself has made His home in you. This is the miracle of regeneration. God Himself has made you alive with Himself (Eph. 2:4-5).

You can be courageous because the Life of the One who is Courage dwells in you.

By faith, release Him to display His glory in every facet of the Life He has given you.
