How You Can Have Peace About Your Future

I went to a football game recently and saw a man standing near the stadium entrance. He held up a large placard, and it said “The End is Near.” And it got me to thinking about the certain truth that Jesus is coming back again.

I’m not sure where you stand concerning end times, but I've seen popular interest in end times wane and swell over the years depending on what’s happening in the world. Natural disasters, activities in the Middle East, the increase of violence and war across the globe—even movies, documentaries, and books—all lead people to consider the last days.

Many wonder—and fear—when those days will be upon us, or whether we’re living in the last days already. No doubt you’ll remember that an ancient Mayan calendar predicted the world would end last December—and yet here we are today!

But I want to tell you that for those who are in Christ, there is nothing to fear! As a follower of Christ, you can know the truth about the future and find full peace of mind and confidence in God’s Word and His promises. Because His promise for you is eternal life and joy in His presence!

Of course, a common question I hear is, “how can you and I have certainty in God’s promises about the future when even the 'now' is so seemingly uncertain?” Well, I’ll tell you. The fundamental step to having confidence in your future is actually by living by faith in God’s proven truth about your present.

Why? Because it’s in your present that you can “know Him and the power of His resurrection” (Philippians 3:10). And it’s in your today that you can have an “assurance of things hoped for” (Hebrews 11:1) and a confidence in your tomorrow.

When your faith grows in who God is today, that joy-filled trust will give you the peace of mind to leave the future to Him as well!

I encourage you to consider where your “today” confidence rests. Because, when it rests in who you are in God, then God Himself will fill your life with His joy and the assurance that the future is in His hands. And you will be empowered to impact the lives of others for God by helping them put their confidence in the proven truth of His Word about their present and future too.
