So many of us are crying out for a visitation from the Lord. We hold revivals, ministry conferences, healing meetings, etc. in expectancy of some great and powerful “touch” of His presence. While those truly can be mighty movements of God, I believe He wants us to shift our mentality on the matter. The Lord’s desire is not a visitation; rather, He seeks a habitation.
Let me illustrate the difference: I have neighbors who are good friends, and on numerous occasions I have gone to their homes to spend time with them. But once the visit is over I return to my house which is my dwelling place. That is a visitation. One of the greatest promises of the Lord to us is found in 2 Cor. 6:16 (NKJV), “I will dwell in them. And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be my people.” These are His promises to us. However, every promise in the Bible is conditional, and if the condition is not met the promise is made ineffective, not by God’s unfaithfulness, but by our own.
The condition is that we would come out from the world’s system. God declares, “So set yourselves apart to be holy, for I, the Lord, am your God.” (Leviticus 20:7 NLT). We must refuse relationship with the world, darkness cannot abide in the presence of pure light. I encourage you today to set yourself apart from this world, and live in the beautiful presence of our King. It’s His desire for His children to make His presence the place of our habitation.
“One thing I have desired of the Lord, That I will seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life” (Psalm 27:4 NKJV)
