When adults run out of things to say to kids, they usually ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The list begins: doctor, athlete, teacher, physical therapist, writer and artist. Those are just from one kid’s list of replies.
No kid ever says, “I want to become addicted to smoking and alcohol too. I don’t want to have a warm place to live either. And I’m really hoping to get fired from lots of jobs.”
When you’re young and you have a whole long life to live yet, it’s fun to hope and dream about all the ways your life can work out. You never think about the way that your life could fail. Neither does God.
In Jeremiah 29:11, he tells you, “I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord. They are plans for peace and not disaster, plans to give you a future filled with hope.”
God has plans for you, good plans that have an exciting future. He created you to be his own, he sent his Son to rescue you, and he wants to be in heaven with you forever.
No matter what job you get, God has work for you to do your whole life. He has great plans for you to bring him glory and to share his good news with others.
As you grow up, follow God’s plans.
