God, Open My Eyes

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is way more radical and outrageous than we realize or experience.

The enemy, who hates you, and hates Jesus even more, doesn’t want you to believe the radical, outrageous nature of the Gospel of grace.

I want you to listen with the core of your being—with the deep, deep part of your heart—to what I’m about to say: When God our gracious Father looks at you, He sees His Son Jesus.

He doesn’t see your past sins (Hebrews 10:14; 17).  He doesn’t see your past accomplishments or failures (Ephesians 4:22-24). He doesn’t see the old, busted up, tore-up-from-the-floor-up you (2 Corinthians 5:17).

He sees His glorious Son Jesus in you because you are united to Jesus (Romans 6:3-5; Eph. 1:4).

How?

Adam was our old representative. Through his cosmic treason, our representative launched humanity into sin and rebellion against God (Romans 5:17).

Jesus is our new representative. Through His perfect obedience to His Father’s will, our representative launches those who trust in Him by faith into His abundant grace and eternal life (Romans 5:18-19).

Pray with me:  Father, open my eyes to believe You and see myself as You see me in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

By the way, people who grasp this reality by faith are the ones who live a more obedient life. Why? Because God’s grace is so amazing (Romans 6:10-14).
