Envy Subtracts Your Potential

Envy subtracts our God-infused potential.

When we spend time thinking about or obsessing over another person, we redirect energy away from who God has called us to be and from what He has called us to accomplish.

Aren’t you tired of wasting time thinking about someone who most likely is not even thinking about you?

Envy is a spiritual straight jacket.

So, how do we get over envy?

First, we must realize Jesus got on the cross.

  • When we anchor our identity in Christ, we become secure in who and whose we are.

Second, must realize that our only significance in life is found in the significant accomplishments of Jesus.

  • Envy means I have to tear someone else down to lift myself up. When Jesus is our significance, we have no need to do that. We have no need to be noticed.

Third, we must learn to admire others without wanting to acquire the gifts and ability that others have.

  • If God wanted you to be them, he would not have made you! The world needs the God-shaped, God- generated, Christ-exalting you!

Fourth, celebrate the success of others!

  • Pray for them! Praise them and what God is doing through them publically!

Life is way too short to subtract your potential by wasting it through envy.
