To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.—Martin Luther
Only someone could say that who knew exhaustion, pain, guilt, and the relentless attacks of Satan. Praying is not something that we need to be nagged into doing. You don’t need to be nagged to breathe. It is not a performance requirement. Prayer is simply God’s oxygen for the lungs of our faith.
“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). Prayer is a communication privilege that only Christians can enjoy, for access to God’s throne comes only through Jesus Christ. Through Jesus Christ, the Father guarantees that he will hear, decide, and act on everything we bring him.
And what a gift it is! Prayer guarantees God’s interaction with your life, no matter how small and unworthy you feel. God intentionally waits with the full measure of his blessings until you ask, in order that you might notice his working in your life. Prayer gives you a way to benefit the lives of other people, even when they are thousands of miles away or even if you don’t know their names. Prayer demonstrates to God that you are proud to identify yourself as his child.
What’s on your mind? Tell God. Ask God. Pray right now! Don’t stop!
