I’m not sure why he hasn’t been eating very well. Our Chesapeake Bay retriever, Joe, has never been focused on food, but he’s a very active dog and food gives him the energy he needs to do what he does best: play.
But recently, he only seems interested in eating if I sit on the porch of his dog house and coax him to dig in. I realize he’s getting older; maybe he doesn’t need as much food. But it’s a bit discouraging to buy high-quality dog food only to have him show little interest or to leave it for the squirrels to enjoy.
A bigger truth
I love how God uses these real-life happenings to point me to greater truths. My husband and I made a commitment to take care of our dogs when we adopted them. From routine vet visits to major surgeries, our pets are well taken care of. We love them.
On a much greater scale, God loves us – He created us. He has provided exactly what we need to enjoy a relationship with Him:
Who (Jesus), being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:6-8
The greatest sacrifice
God was willing to send His Son, Jesus, to become a man to suffer and die for the sins of all mankind. He was the only One who could pay the price for our sin debt because He never sinned. He offers us eternal life when we accept Christ’s blood sacrifice.
Sadly, just like my dog often ignores the quality food I bring him; many people ignore the great sacrifice Jesus made for them. They try to approach God on their own terms, their own way. God’s Word is clear:
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
I can only imagine the pain God experiences every time a man or woman rejects His offer. Such a high price was paid for mankind’s salvation; yet He won’t force anyone to accept His gift.
Your turn
Have you accepted God’s gift of salvation? Or are you trying to come to God your own way? Realize God loves You and has already made a way for you to have a restored relationship with Him: through Jesus Christ, His Son (John 3:16).
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving me. Forgive me when I ignore You or try to please you by doing things my own way. Help me realize You gave everything to purchase my salvation. Help me share this truth with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
