Don’t Be Scared!

Do you dress up for trick or treat? It’s fun to be a princess or a ninja, or maybe a cowboy or a ballerina. Maybe you even like the creepy stuff, like a monster or mummy. This is the week when people think it’s okay to scare others or have others scare them, all because they know it’s for pretend.

What about real fears, though? At some point everyone has a scary problem, one that isn’t just part of an active imagination.

Are your parents fighting? Do you get bullied at school? Is your neighborhood a little dangerous? Is someone in your family sick? What other problems do you have that make you scared?

This was a problem for God’s people thousands of years ago.

When the Israelites were going up against their enemies, God told them he wasn’t only with them, but he’d do the fighting for them. “Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them. For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory” (Deuteronomy 20:3, 4 NIV).

Whatever problem you have, do not be afraid or panic. God wants you to know that he is with you. He loves you and watches over you; he helps you when you’re afraid. But he does even more than that. He fights FOR you. He tells you not to worry. He’s got this.

Chomp on this!

What things scare you right now?

How do you think God might fight your fears for you?
