Does God Only Tell Us Something Once?

Question

I was told by someone I trust that God will only give you a message once and if you don’t do it, it’s gone forever. Can that be true?

Answer

Dear friend,

Thankfully, no, it’s not true or we would all be doomed.

I have found that God tends to work with me over and over and over. That’s how He worked with Israel. However, there is a limit to what God will do for man. When we die, that’s done. When we harden our heart over and over and over, and grow calloused, we aren’t listening any more. It’s not so much did God quit, it’s, did we quit?

There are some times that God works with someone and drops a hint and waits for them to respond and then He grows silent for a time.  That’s more about training. Yet, mostly the Bible says that He is patient with us and keeps after us.

Then again, it depends on what you are talking about. If it’s like a kid touching a fire, then the parent may say, ‘don’t touch the fire’ and look away and there is a split second and the kid touches the fire. That was ONE warning due to time limits.
