Defeating Anxiety

Anxiety sucks.

Anxiety stifles creativity and sabotages relationships.

And anxiety makes you cranky, fearful, and turns you into a coward. I refuse to be a coward! How about you?

When you and I allow anxiety to rule us, we’re preparing to fail even before we try. I refuse to let anxiety rob me of all that our great God wants to accomplish through me. How about you?

Seth Godin, in his book Linchpin, points out that anxiety “is fear about fear, fear that means nothing”. Anxiety thrusts us into an unknown future that does not really exist. We’re so busy stressing about the future that we miss living fully and courageously in the present. When we live heroically in the present, we prepare for the future, which will be the present.

Anxiety wants us to live in the soul-crippling state of ‘what if.' It’s time you and I move out of the state of ‘what if’. Let the words of sacred scripture shape your soul:

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.  Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies. Philippians 4:6-9 THE MESSAGE.
