Jesus' first disciples were susceptible to the universal human tendency to compare themselves with others. Like us, they fell into the trap of edging God out and exalting themselves in His place. Fear and pride inevitably lead to comparison and competition instead of unity and mutual support. Jesus calls us to live humbly before God and one another, confident in God's ability to accomplish His purpose in and through our lives. Choose today to exalt God, not yourself.
A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest.—Luke 22:24
Prayer: God, I confess that I, too, fall into the trap of wanting to exalt myself over others. I get my eyes off You and onto myself. Cleanse my heart from the tendency to compare myself with others. Give me a new heart. Let me exalt You only through my life and leadership. I ask in Jesus' name, amen.
