Aren’t you glad Jesus invites those with child-like hearts to come close? I’m grateful to see glimpses of Him cuddling little ones in His lap in the midst of a hectic schedule (Mark 10:13-16) because I’m constantly running to Him, arms extended, asking “Can I climb up in your lap?”
In Mark 10, when the disciples tried to barricade Jesus from these little sticky-fingered “nuisances,” Scripture says He became “indignant.” Wow. That’s not the kind of reaction we typically expect from Jesus. “Indignant” or deeply grieved. This word is heavy with emotion and it’s the only time we see it used in relation to Christ.
Why was he so upset?
I think it’s because His heart is for the needy. And that is one thing I love so much about Him. He doesn’t look to rub shoulders with the high and mighty, doesn’t seek to gain popularity among the rich and famous, and doesn’t care about his approval rating among the American Idol crowd. He watches for the needy and bends low to pick up the humble child who reaches for Him.

“Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these . . . And he took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands on them.”
