All-Access Pass to God

So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture,” (John 10:7-9).

I have a good friend, Dr. Tony Evans, who serves as chaplain for the Dallas Mavericks. And because he’s chaplain, he has access through security that few people have. So every now and then, he’ll take a few friends to the ball game.

They’ll tell him, “We’ll meet you there.” His response to this is, “Oh no, you need to go with me because we’re going to drive right up to the arena, go into an underground tunnel, and pass through the security gate of a special access area. And if anyone asks you who you are, you tell them you’re with me, and they’ll let you right on by.”

This is a clear picture of what it’s like for us to stand before a holy God. We don’t have the credentials to enter His presence by our own merit because of our sin. So, when we’re asked what we are doing here, we point to Jesus and say, “I’m with Him!”

The heinousness of our sin is rarely preached today. But I’m convinced that without understanding sin, we can never begin to grasp the wonderful access we have to the Father in Christ. So thank God today that despite your ugly sin, He’s made access to Him available to you in His Son, Jesus Christ!

Thank God that in Christ, He sees past your sin and grants your access to eternal life!
