There’s no such thing as absolute security in this world. Accidents happen, illnesses come, thieves steal, possessions wear out, and eventually death comes to all of us. That could be depressing if we thought about it too much, but it’s really not. Why? Because even though we’re born into a world of futility, we’ve also been offered a way to overcome it. Those who believe have been filled with new life and anchored in a realm that cannot be destroyed and will never waste away.
Some people live as if this is a one-day escape rather than a present reality. But it begins to take effect even now. Sure, those other insecurities still exist for a time, but we don’t base our lives in them. We find our security in something much more solid and profound. It’s absolute and unshakeable.
God subjected this world to frustration (Romans 8:20-21), and it’s good that he did. Otherwise, we would never sense our need for the truer, deeper, more lasting realm. But we desperately long for it, and when enter into it, we receive an entirely different kind of life—along with an inheritance that can never spoil or fade (1 Peter 1:4). The more we anchor ourselves in that, the more confidently and securely we can live.
