A Vow of Purity

Purity. It is something lacking in our society. Recently while doing a search online for purity, I found an article saying purity should not exist. This article did not just suggest but outright said that one should have many partners before marriage. What!? My heart sank at those words. Moms, this is what is being shoved down our daughters throats! In this world of ‘it’s all about me and my own pleasure.’ all morals are tossed out the window.

Purity is God’s plan for our life until marriage. Purity is God’s perfect design for us before we take a vow with a mate for life.

It is time we take a stand. It is time we show our girls what God’s design is. That He has a great plan for her life and purity until marriage is a part of that plan.

How to start:

  • Pray regularly over her purity.
  • Talk to your husband about making a vow of purity with your daughter.
  • Pray with your husband about her purity. {If you are a single mom, talk with your pastor and his wife, or your own parents. You need someone to pray with you on this.}
  • Plan a special day for her to make this vow.

Some ideas to make her vow special:

  • Have Daddy take her on a special date. {If she does not have a Dad in her life, ask a grandfather, uncle or pastor. Chances are they would be honored! If all else fails, make it a mother/daughter date!}
  • Make her date extra special. Dress up and go to her favorite restaurant. {I know this can get pricey. So save up for a month or so, or instead of a meal, just do dessert!}
  • Have Dad leave while she gets ready. He can knock on the door at the appointed time with a rose in hand.
  • Her date, Dad, should open the car door for her, open the doors to the restaurant, and pull her chair out.
  • During the date, Dad needs to bring up the subject of purity. He can share scriptures that help us to keep our body, heart and mind pure {like Phil 4:8}. Remember, purity is about more than the act of s*x. It is also about watching p*rn, participating in s*xting, looking at anything unacceptable or discussing anything unacceptable. She needs to know it’s okay, good even, to walk away from a discussion, movie, tv show, or situation.
  • Dad needs to share that her parents are always available to her. Encourage her to be open and honest and promise that you will always be there to listen.
  • Give her a certificate that says her vow of purity.
  • Present her with a token to remember her vow. A ring is a wonderful idea. C28 is where we purchased our rings. They have many styles at affordable prices. A necklace is a great choice too.
  • At the end of the date Dad can walk her to the door, kiss her check, then drive off. {Chances are Dad may need a moment to shed a tear after his date and seeing his little girl grow up.}
  • Her date should be a time where she feels special and sees how a gentleman treats a lady.

After her date:

  • Continue to pray for her.
  • Use opportunities to encourage her in her vow. For example, if the subject comes up on tv or maybe with a friend, discuss how the girl will have life long consequences and how her choices now can effect her marriage.
  • If your daughter falls away from purity. Help her get back on track. Cry with her. Pray with her and for her. Purity is a choice of the heart that must be made daily.

The world will tell your daughter purity is a joke. Mom, share with her God’s truth.

My Vow of Purity

I promise to God, my parents, my future mate and myself to keep my mind and body morally clean and pure so that when I enter the marriage covenant I will be able to give of myself, with completely clean conscious, to my mate.

I will be careful of what I see, hear and do, always keeping my eyes on Jesus.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8

Purity is a heart choice that I must make.

Purity requires God’s strength.

Purity is not a one-time choice.

Purity is a lifestyle, not simply a part of life.

I am God’s chosen child, dearly loved, and purity is His plan for my life. Through Him I can remain pure in body, mind and spirit. In times of weakness, I can turn to God and my parents.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God. Matthew 5:8
