A New Thing

“Behold, I will do a new thing ....” —Isaiah 43:19 (nkjv)

I have lost more than ninety pounds. One unexpected downside is getting rid of my “heavy” wardrobe. I invested considerable time and money putting those outfits together and even had costume jewelry to coordinate with each one.

There is the black twill blazer with the gold and red crest on the pocket. I wore it with a crisp pair of black slacks and a wide gold necklace, which I found deeply discounted at an outlet.

Then there is the light-blue denim pantsuit. The collar is studded with rhinestones, and I accented it with a large rhinestone cross and wore it with a shimmering silver shell. I found it all in a charming little Texas town when I was vacationing there.

Memories, all. It was as much fun acquiring those clothes as it was wearing them. And now they are five sizes too large.

Today, in church, the pastor spoke about how the Lord is doing a brand-new thing in each of our lives and how it should fill our hearts to overflowing. So I found an organization that provides appropriate clothing for women who are going on job interviews. Suddenly, the thought of someone wearing my clothes to have a better life fills me with amazing joy.

Everything I have, God, really belongs to You. Help me to release it today with a heart full of joy.
