The overwhelming majority of Americans don’t attend a weekend worship service.
If we’re waiting for “them” to come to us, the American Church will continue its rapid decline and head the way of the European Church.
Church leaders, what are we to do?
We must need something new, right?
Wrong.
We need to do something ancient.
We don’t need a new kind of church, we need to remember our roots and recapture the missional heartbeat of the ancient, biblical church (Matthew 28:18-20).
Leaders, by the Spirit’s willingness and joyous empowerment, we must teach our congregations, through our personal example and through our teaching, discipleship, leadership development, and systems that they are missionaries.
People in our culture take their issues and junk into the context of their everyday lives; that’s why we need to equip our people as missionaries in the context of the business world, in education at all levels, in science, politics, the arts, music, media, technology, and at the gym.
Church is not a place where we go; Church is the identity of a people joining Jesus on His mission as they go. On the weekends, the Church gathers, and throughout the week, we scatter into every sector of American life, being the hands and feet of Jesus.
