A Love Song from a King

Do you believe that Jesus loves you? I’m sure you know in your head that He does. But do you really believe it in your heart? And what difference does it make in your life?

One of the Most Misunderstood and Neglected Books

The Song of Solomon (or the Song of Songs, as it is sometimes called) speaks to those who feel unlovely and unloved—and no matter how good our human relationships are, we all have those feelings sometimes. Married, single, or single again, the Song of Songs calls you to see yourself through God’s eyes, made new and perfect through Christ’s sacrifice... and enabled to accept His love for you.

The Song of Songs is one of the most magnificent books of the Bible. It is also one of the most misunderstood and neglected books! It is a love song—the story of a king and his relationship with his bride. For more than thirty years, I have loved reading, studying, and teaching this little Old Testament book which gives us a stunning portrait of God’s covenant love for His people and Christ’s passionate love for His Bride, the church, and for every individual believer.

So What?

Why is it so important for us to know and experience Christ’s love? Because when we don’t believe He really loves us, we often try to fill that hole in our heart by seeking love in the wrong places. And oh, the heartbreak that awaits us then!

When we are secure in God’s love for us, we also gain a whole new capacity to point others to Him. In Song of Songs, after the Bride has described the splendor of the Bridegroom, others ask her, “Where has your beloved gone... that we may seek him with you?” (6:1). If Christ is your magnificent obsession, those around you will be drawn to seek Him with you!

Christ wants to flow out of us in life-giving streams of grace to others, and that starts with letting His love capture your heart.
